Race To Nowhere
Don't miss SGES PTA's presentation of "Race to Nowhere" which will be held at Short Pump Middle School on Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $10 online and $15 at the door. A limited number of tickets are available so pre-ordering is highly suggested.
This chilling documentary about our achievement-driven culture can only be viewed at limited select screenings. SGES

culture that is highly test-driven and pushes many students to the
edge. A group discussion will follow the movie. For movie trailers, reviews and more information on"Race To Nowhere," please check out the website http://www.racetonowhere.com/

NOMINATE YOUR SUPER TEACHER
Many of you know and appreciate at least one dedicated Virginia public school teacher who consistently goes the extra mile each day to serve their students and their communities. The Virginia Lottery, the Virginia PTA, and The Supply Room Companies also recognize that Virginia is brimming with these outstanding teachers.
These three organizations have partnered for the fifth year in a row to bring you the "Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Awards."
Through this program, the Virginia Lottery will pay tribute to those educators who put smiles on their students' faces and who are shaping their futures. The Virginia Lottery will recognize eight teachers across the Commonwealth as "Super Teachers." Each winning teacher will receive a $2,000 credit from the Supply Room Companies to outfit their classroom as well as a $2,000 prize from the Virginia Lottery.
Great news! This year, winning schools will receive a dynamic Science Museum of Virginia Educational Experience. Now more than ever, you own school benefits from supporting a Super Teacher!
To nominate your "Super Teacher," please go to the website. The nomination period launches January 3, 2011 and the submission deadline is February 14, 2011.

Thanks to all of the parents and friends for a successful Spirited Art Night. We raised $600 for Shady Grove Elementary and had a great time as well! We really appreciated your contribution.
November 29, 2011 President's Message
from Kaje Stuckey As we near the end of 2011, I'd like to thank every
one who has contributed to the check writing campaign. It is not the
only way the PTA funds its programs but it's the biggest for our
non-profit, and to date we near $30,000! That is over our estimated
fundraising goal of $22,000. If everyone continues to support our
fundraising (like Papa Johns week, Box Tops and Kroger/Martin/ cards )
and our spirit nights, like December's Barnes and Noble night, we should
be able to fully fund all our programs. In fact, the PTA board hopes to
be able to ask you, our PTA members, how to spend what we have left as
we near the end of school. If you've got a great idea for our school,
feel free to e-mail me at mikeandkaje@verizon.net
November 14, 2011 President's Message
from Kaje Stuckey Continuing to highlight those volunteers that make SGES PTA run, this blast I'd like to thank Angela Roupe and Beth Clark. As VPs of finance they organize all our fundraising and spirit nights. With a budget of over $60,000, they are responsible for helping SGES raise much of it. Thank you for your tireless work and your creative ideas. Because of your fundraising, we are able to provide programs and support in our school. And thank you, Shady Grove families, for supporting them. Your generosity is the major reason why our PTA has success.
